We train young people in all aspects of professional theatre and stage only new theatrical works. Members have the chance to learn acting, writing, directing for stage and screen, fight training, set design, stage lighting and producing.
We started in 2003 when a group of eight students asked Emma Humphreys (Winner of the Bill Warnock award 2004) to teach them the skills of acting. Learning screen acting and theatre skills we decided to perform a show for the public in 2004. RED a devised piece on the tragedy of September 11 was a success and led the way for larger shows and more interested young performers joining our cast. In 2005 a cast of twenty-five actors performed our largest show Older and Far Away, A lost Epic which included elaborate costumes, sword fighting skills and the construction of a 20 metre city wall.
We hold workshops in the teaching area at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre next to the Kalamunda High School and hold performances in the 250 seat theatre.
The year is broken down into three seasons, each with a different focus on developing a new show, performing a show, or learning new skills.
New members spend their first
season in a beginner's course which teaches them physical skills used in acting on stage.
The intermediate and advanced courses are available after the beginner's course and focus
on developing a character and specific skills used in acting.
During each season students attend a specialist workshop which teaches them specific skills such as writing, directing, producing or fight training. At these workshops we invite artists from the industry to talk about their experiences and answer questions from the students.
Recently we've invited Annie Murtagh-Monks a well-known casting agent in WA and Sam Longly a very experienced comedian actor to these specialist workshops.
We are one the fastest growing theatre company's in Western Australia and are currently looking for young people interested acting, writing and directing on stage.
